Blanche of Lancaster (25 March 1342 – 12 September 1368) was a member of the English-French royal House of Lancaster and the daughter of the kingdom's wealthiest and most powerful peer, Henry of Grosmont, 1st Duke of Lancaster. She was the first wife of John of Gaunt, the mother of King Henry IV, and the grandmother of King Henry V of England.

John of Gaunt (1340. március 6. – 1399. február 3.) az angol Plantagenêt-ház tagja, Lancaster, majd Aquitania hercege, III. Eduárd angol király és Hainaut-i Filippa harmadik fia. Szülei szokásukhoz híven gyermekeiket arról a helyről nevezték el, ahol születtek. Filippa 1340-ben adott életet Johnnak a flandriai Gent városában, a város angol neve Gaunt volt. John a korabeli Anglia egyik legnagyobb földbirtokosa és legbefolyásosabb nemesura volt. Unokaöccse, II. Richárd kiskorúsága alatt nagy befolyásra tett szert Angliában.
